TREATING PCOS WITH AYURVEDA
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common problems affecting approximately 12% of all woman.
Symptoms of PCOS:
1. PCOS can effect menstrual cycle (irregular menstrual cycle, amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhea) 2. Effects on hormonal level,
3. Effects on fertility as well as
4. appearance including acne, facial hair growth and balding, overweight, etc.
6. Some woman may suffer from depression.

It is also a metabolic problem that affects several body systems. PCOS is the most common endocrinopathy which mostly occur in women of reproductive age, resulting into insulin resistance and the compensatory hyper insulinemia.

AYURVEDA VIEW OF PCOS:
According to ayurvedic view PCOS can be correlated with Aarthava Kshaya. Ayurveda scriptures describes gynaecological disorder mainly under the term “Yonivyapada”. The sign & symptoms of condition like Anartava / Nashtarva, Arjaska Yonivyapada, Lohitakshaya Yonivyapada, Vandhya Yonivyapada, Shandi Yonivyapada, Aartava Kashya and Pushpaghani Jataharini mentioned in Ayurveda closely resemble the features of PCOS symptoms.

AYURVEDA TREATMENT of PCOS:

Ayurveda has certain advantages over Allopathy when it comes to treating PCOD/PCOS. In 90% of the patients Ayurveda can offer a permanent solution for PCOD & PCOS. Allopathy helps several management options for PCOS, but Ayurveda provides the potential for a permanent cure.
While explaining Yoni Vyapada classical texts also described some herbal formulations to treat such conditions. These included Latakaranj seeds (Caesalpinia cristata), Shivlingi (Bryonopsis laciniosa), Shatpushpa (Anethum sowa) & Kounch (Mucuna prurita).

TREATING UTERINE FIBROIDS WITH AYURVEDA

Uterine enlargement is common in reproductive life of a female. Other than pregnancy, it is seen most frequently in the result of leiomyomas. Leiomyomas are benign smooth muscle neoplasmas that typically originate from the myometrium, due to fibrous consistency and are also called as fibroid. They may be identified in asymptomatic women during routine pelvic examination or may cause symptoms.

SYMPTOMS OF FIBROIDS:
Typical complaints include

  1. pain, pressure sensations in lower abdomen.
  2. dysmenorrhea or abnormal uterine bleeding.

Ultrasonography (USG) of the lower abdomen was the main investigative/diagnostic tool in this study.
Management of uterine fibroid through surgery is available to meet urgent need of the patient, but challenges remain to establish a satisfactory conservatory medical treatment till date.

AYURVEDA APPROACH TO TREATING FIBROIDS

Hence, it was critically reviewed in the context of Granthi Roga and treatment protocol befitting the Samprapti Vighatana (treating the root cause) of Granthi (encapsulated growth) is subjected in patients of uterine fibroids.

Ayurvedic formulations like Kayakalp FIBROID KALP capsules, Kayakalp MENSA KALP capsules, and classical remedies as Kanchanara GugguluShigru Guggulu, and Haridra Khand are found to be effective treatment modality in uterine fibroid.
